News You Need: Oakland County Road Construction Update
Several ongoing road construction projects could cause traffic delays through June 17.

The Road Commission of Oakland County has updated its construction schedule and list of projects that may cause delays between June 10-17.
The road commission’s goal to conduct road improvement projects in a way that interferes with traffic as little as possible. This list includes both RCOC projects and projects conducted by others, under permit, on roads under the jurisdiction of the Road Commission.

Please note: This information is subject to change. Projects can change from day to day, and traffic delays can develop in a matter of minutes due to weather, emergency situations, etc.

ROAD: Tienken Road, Canyon Creek to Rochester Road Project: This is the second phase of the Tienken project. Phase one, from Livernois to the Paint Creek, was completed in 2014. Tienken Road from Canyon Creek to Rochester Road is closed for construction. The road is being reconstructed and a continuous center, left-turn lane added. Residential and business access will be maintained within the closure zone. The detour is Adams Road to University Drive to Rochester Road and vice versa. Community: Rochester Hills Completion Date: Closed portion to re-open in September, entire project completion is November
ROAD: Clyde Road, east of Hickory Ridge to west of Strathcona Street Project: Carryover gravel road paving project from 2014. Currently paving work is being completed, and motorists can expect intermittent lane closures. Community: Highland Township Completion Date: June 12
ROAD: Fish Lake Road between Mitchell and Kurtz roads Project: This section of Fish Lake Road remains closed due to a collapsed culvert under the road. The detour route is Mitchell Road to North Holly Road to Elliott Road and back to Fish Lake Road and vice versa. Project is expected to begin during the June/July period when stream flows are low, so the culvert can be replaced. Community: Holly Twp. Completion Date: Late August
ROAD: 4 Mile Road/Orchard Lake Road intersection Project: 14 Mile Road is closed at the west side of the 14 Mile/Orchard Lake intersection as part of the ongoing reconstruction of this intersection as a roundabout. The detour for 14 Mile Road traffic is Farmington Road to 13 Mile to Middlebelt Road and back to 14 Mile and vice versa or Middlebelt to Maple to Farmington and back to 14 Mile and vice versa. The detour for southbound Orchard Lake traffic wishing to go west on 14 Mile or 14 Mile traffic wishing to go north on Orchard Lake is Maple Road to Farmington Road to 14 Mile and vice versa. Access to businesses located adjacent to the construction zone will be maintained.This is the final phase of the larger 14 Mile/Orchard Lake/Northwestern Highway “triangle” project. Community: On the Farmington Hills/West Bloomfield Township border Completion Date: Full project expected to conclude in November
ROAD: Tienken Road, Adams to Livernois Project: Tienken Road from Adams Road to Livernois Road will close to traffic on approximately June 15 through approximately Aug. 7 for a road construction project. Local access to business and residents will be maintained during the closure. The detour is Adams Road to University Drive/Walton Boulevard back to Tienken Road and vice versa. Community: Rochester Hills Completion Date: Aug. 7
ROAD: Green Lake Road, Commerce Road to just east of Fieldview Street Project: Project began late in 2014 and is a carryover to 2015. Green Lake Road between Commerce Road and Richardson is open to traffic. Motorists can expect temporary lane closures as the contractor completes behind the curb restoration Community: West Bloomfield Twp. Completion Date: Substantially complete (behind the curb restoration work continues)
ROAD: Haggerty Road between Pontiac Trail and Richardson Road Project: Haggerty Road between Pontiac Trail and Richardson Road is closed to through traffic. Residential and business access will be maintained within the closure area. The detour for the closure is Pontiac Trail to Martin Parkway to Richardson Road and back to Haggerty Road and vice versa. The project includes milling the surface, drainage improvements, asphalt overlay and other improvements. Community: Commerce Township Completion Date: Late October
ROAD: Griswold Road between 8 and 9 Mile roads Project: Griswold Road between 8 and 9 Mile roads is closed to through traffic so the gravel road can be paved. Residential and business access will be maintained within the closure area. The detour for the closure is 8 Mile Road to Pontiac Trail to 10 Mile Road and back to Griswold and vice versa. The project includes drainage work, placement of concrete curbs/gutters in a few areas and shoulder and ditch improvements. Community: Lyon Township Completion Date: Late September
ROAD: Cedar Island Road, Oxbow Lake Road to Bogie Lake Road Project: RCOC closed this road last year because a culvert is collapsing that carries the Huron River under the road. It is not yet known when the road can be repaired. The detour is Bogie Lake to Cooley Lake to Oxbow Lake and back to Cedar Island and vice versa. Community: White Lake Twp. Completion Date: Unknown
ROAD: Milford Road, Pontiac Trail to the Milford Village limits Project: The resurfacing of Milford Road between Pontiac Trail and the Milford Village limits is underway. The 3.8 mile project includes the installation of a turn lane at Lakefield Parkway and intersection and drainage improvements. The road is open to traffic during construction, but motorists should expect delays. Community: Milford Township Completion Date: Late September
ROAD: Quarton Road near Chesterfield Road Project: Quarton Road from Cranbrook to Woodward Avenue is closed to through traffic for an intersection realignment and widening project. Residential access will be maintained in the construction zone throughout the project. The detour is Lahser Road to Woodward Avenue back to Quarton Road and vice versa. Community: Birmingham/Bloomfield Hills Completion Date: End of July
ROAD: Lahser Road between 14 Mile and Maple roads Project: There are intermittent lane closures on Lahser Road between 14 Mile and Maple roads. Traffic is being directed by flaggers. The road is expected to close to through traffic tentatively beginning June 29. At that time, local traffic will have access only by using Maple Road. The second phase of the project is Lahser Road, 13 Mile Road to 14 Mile Road, and will proceed when the prior segment is completed. Community: Bloomfield Township and Beverly Hills Completion Date: Entire project end of November, 2015
ROAD: Wixom Road just north of I-96 Project: The southbound outside lane of Wixom Road just north of I-96 is open to traffic. There will be continued short-term intermittent lane closures while work is completed on the Menard’s development by the contractor. Community: Wixom Completion Date: Intermittent/ short-term lane closures on-going
ROAD: Sashabaw Road, Waldon to I-75 Project: Construction is underway on Sashabaw Road from I-75 to Waldon Road. The project includes work on the I-75/Sashabaw interchange, construction of a new off-ramp from northbound I-75 to southbound Sashabaw Road and the addition of a second lane to the on-ramp to southbound I-75 from northbound Sashabaw Road. Second left-turn lanes also will be added to three legs of the Waldon/Sashabaw Road intersection on northbound Sashabaw, eastbound Waldon and westbound Waldon. Traffic signal upgrades are included. Community: Independence Township Completion Date: End of October, 2015
ROAD: Maple Road/Apple Blossom Trail/Wyndham Blvd. intersection Project: RCOC is resurfacing and widening the Maple Road and Apple Blossom/Wyndham Blvd. intersection. The intersection remains open to traffic during construction. The project includes milling and resurfacing work, addition of left-turn lanes on Maple, improved drainage, upgraded traffic signal and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalks and ramps. Community: West Bloomfield Township Completion Date: End of September, 2015
ROAD: Middlebelt Road, south of Northwestern Hwy. Project: The right lane of Middlebelt Road, just south of Northwestern Hwy., is closed to traffic due to a culvert issue. Community: Farmington Hills Completion Date: To be determined
*ROAD: Orchard Lake, north of Grand River Project: The northbound lane on Orchard Lake Road, north of Grand River, is closed for approximately 150 feet for concrete slab replacement work. Northbound traffic will use the center turn lane, and motorists can expect delays. Community: Farmington Completion Date: Wednesday, June 10
ROAD: John R, Long Lake to south of Maple Project: Concrete slab replacement work is being done on northbound and southbound lanes of John R from Long Lake to south of Maple. Traffic leaving Athens High School will not be able to turn left from the driveway to northbound John R. Additionally, left turns from northbound John R to the Athens High School south driveway are not permitted. Left turns from northbound John R onto westbound Maple are also not permitted. The right lane in each direction of John R remains open to traffic. Project is spearheaded by the City of Troy. Community: Troy Completion Date: Late June 2015
ROAD: Pontiac Lake Road over Pontiac Lake Outlet (between Fisk Road and M-59) Project: Pontiac Lake Road over the Pontiac Lake Outlet closure is delayed due to weather related issues. The new closure date is tentatively scheduled for June 15. The detour during the closure will be Pontiac Lake Road to Highland Road (M-59) to Fisk Road and back to Pontiac Lake Road or vice versa. Community: White Lake Township Completion Date: To be determined
ROAD: Maybee Road over Sashabaw Creek between Pineknob and Clintonville Roads Project: Culvert replacement work began June 1 on Maybee Road over the Sashabaw Creek, between Pineknob and Clintonville roads. The road is expected to close to traffic beginning today, June 10, and re-open to traffic in late June. The detour will be Sashabaw Road to Waldon to Clintoville and vice versa. The remainder of the project is expected to be concluded in late September. Community: Independence Township Completion Date: Late September
*ROAD: Eaton Road, north of Davisburg Project: The road is closed to traffic at the railroad crossing due to emergency railroad-crossing repair being done by CN. The detour is Davisburg to Tindall to Rattalee and back to Eaton Road and vice versa. Community: Springfield Township Completion Date: June 13
