For those of you who commute to the Auburn Hills area for work, Oakland University's organic farm is a great place to get fresh organic produce. Each Thursday from June-October the students who run the farm sell delightful organic produce from 10am-3pm. The produce is inexpensive. I recently purchased 2 huge summer squash, 1 eggplant, and one bunch of collard greens for a total of $4.
The farm uses greenhouses to grow vegetables year round. When they aren't selling the vegetables, they donate them to local food banks. They also grow organic herbs and flowers.
Eating local organic vegetables will really help in your weight loss efforts. The produce doesn't lose some of its nutritional value from being in refrigerated trucks, like the produce that you find at the grocery store does. Plus you don't have to worry about the chemicals used in traditionally grown vegetables.
