OPC Discusses Proposed Revisions to Interlocal Agreement

A presentation detailed changes at Tuesday's Oakland Township Board of Trustees meeting.

Ravi Yalamanchi of Rochester Hills, treasurer of the Older Persons’ Commission’s governing board, gave a thorough presentation at Tuesday’s Oakland Township Board of Trustees meeting about changes the senior center is suggesting be made to its interlocal agreement.

The interlocal agreement is between Oakland Township, Rochester and Rochester Hills, each of which partially fund and control the senior center in Rochester.

All three communities fund the entity and each of the three governing bodies are tasked with approving or denying the OPC’s proposed budget each year. The OPC is proposing that though it will still submit its budget to all three bodies, it would not need those communities' approval in order to operate. Instead, the Older Persons’ Commission is proposing its governing board be able to approve its own budget.

“OPC as an independent governing body should have the authority and the responsibility to adopt a budget,” Yalamanchi said during the meeting at .

Oakland Township Treasurer Sharon Creps and Supervisor Joan Fogler praised the commission for all it does and Fogler assured OPC board members they would review the changes to the agreement and give feedback as soon as possible. Yalamanchi said he hopes to have feedback from all three governing communities by the end of June.
