Orion Township Voters Say Yes to Police, Fire Funding

Orion Township firefighters and police will get the funding they asked for after Tuesday's primary vote.

Voters OK'd three millages on the primary ballot, according to unofficial results from the Oakland County Clerk with 100 percent of precincts reporting. One would add a millage for funding for Orion Township firefighters, and the other would do so for Orion Township police.

The  to approve .9916 mills for four years beginning in December. The primary ballot stated: "a property with taxable value of $50,000 would be taxed $49.58 for the millage." The fire millage passed with about 78 percent approval by about 7,000 voters.

The  fund included two millages for the Oakland County Sheriff's Substation—one to renew a levy and the other to add an additional one officials said they needed to keep current staffing levels.

One item asked voters to renew the current millage, 1.9832, for the next four years beginning in December, while another item asked to levy an additional millage of 1.0168 mills to be imposed at the same time.

The renewal passed with about 75 percent approval of the more than 7,000 who voted. The additional millage passed on a narrower 52-48 margin, out of about 7,000 voters.
