Expect Blossom Ridge Decision Tonight, Planning Commissioners Say

After months of presentations, township officials to choose whether or not to go forward with the proposed senior living community at Adams and Dutton roads.

At Chairman James Carter and Commissioner Marc Edwards said they intend to make a motion one way or another at the next meeting. That meeting is tonight.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at and will once again revolve around whether or not to go forward with the 282 unit senior living community proposed on 42 acres of land at the northwest corner of Adams and Dutton Roads. Moceri Development is behind the proposal, hoping to rezone the plot of land from Medium Residential Density (MRD) to Multiple Family Residential Density with Planned Residential Rezoning Overlay (RM-PRRO) in order to build Blossom Ridge.

A group of residents known as Residents for Responsible Growth in Oakland Township, have been fighting the rezoning, arguing that the development will function as a business, is too large for the area and will draw even more unwanted traffic to an already busy Adams Road. Bob Sirna, member of the group, said the group hopes the commission will choose to table the item and hold a public meeting to form an amiable plan for senior living that would fit into Oakland Township's character.

Carter repeatedly reminded fellow commissioners at January's meeting that the commission needed to focus its decision on traffic, character, eligibility for the zoning to PRRO and the density of the project.

Though traffic, one of the largest concerns, has been addressed and residents and commissioners have been presented with numbers suggesting that peak time traffic would not be impacted greatly, locals are having a hard time believing the study.

“My reality is different than that. It’s all peak time when you’re on Adams Road,” Commissioner Amy Carels said at the January meeting.
