Police Blotter: Cigarettes, Money, Kayak and More Reported Stolen

Highlights from reports from the past week:
Kayak reported missing
On Sunday a Lake Orion woman who lives on the 600 block of Fernhurst Court reported her blue Acadia Perception kayak missing. According to the substation report, the kayak had been lying next to her other kayaks near the water and appears to have been stolen.
Waterford men arrested in breaking and entering
On Saturday night Orion Township Substation deputies arrested two Waterford men on charges of breaking and entering at property.

An alarm was triggered, bringing the deputies to the scene, where they noticed two men in the yard. The 35-year-old and 40-year-old men from Waterford attempted to run after the deputies identified themselves. Deputies caught up with both men and arrested them, the report stated.

Cigarettes, money stolen from gas station
Early Thursday morning an alarm went off at at 4520 Joslyn Rd. after someone threw a rock through the front door, shattering the glass, according to the report.
A homeowner who lives across from the gas station witnessed the incident, reporting to the deputies that after the incident the suspect fled southbound in a vehicle. The owner was contacted by the alarm company after the breaking and entering, according to the report, and after reviewing his inventory noted that 120 packs of cigarettes and about $150 had been stolen.
The witness noted that the person responsible for the burglary was a man. Video surveillance showed a man in his mid- to late 20s, about 6 feet tall, wearing a white T-shirt, white tennis shoes and a pair of blue jeans. From the video, deputies could also see the man was wearing gloves and carrying a white plastic garbage bag in which he stuffed his stolen items, the report stated.
Irrigation system device stolen
A manufacturing engineer from Cobasys LLC at 3740 S. Lapeer Rd. contacted the Orion Township Substation on Saturday morning after discovering the company's backflow preventer had been stolen.
According to the report, the backflow preventer, worth about $1,500, was kept outside the building. When a contractor came out Friday to restart the irrigation system, the preventer was missing. The engineer did not know when the preventer was stolen, said the report, and there were no suspects at that time.
Woman attempts to steal items from Kohl's
On the evening of April 25 a 32-year-old Waterford woman attempted to steal more than $200 worth of merchandise from .
According to a report, a Kohl's representative watched as the Waterford woman picked up a variety of items, including flip flops, shirts and swim wear, and concealed them in a shopping car. After the woman passed the registers without paying and attempted to exit the store, the Kohl's representative approached the woman, the report said. The report noted that the Waterford woman went to the loss prevention office with the representative without incident. After the deputy arrived on the scene the Waterford woman was issued a citation for third degree retail fraud, the report said.
