Rochester Hills Vet Finally Gets Service Medals
Fifty years after the end of the Vietnam War, Edward Henderson will be recognized with six medals at Friday ceremony.

A Vietnam veteran from Rochester Hills will get long-awaited medals in a ceremony Friday at Rochester Hills City Hall.
The medals awarded to Edward Henderson, who served with the U.S. Army Security Agency in Thailand from 1968-1971 in addition to his stint in Vietnam, are the first he has received.

“Edward Henderson went above and beyond for our nation during the Vietnam War, and I am honored to present him with the numerous medals he earned,” said 8th District Congressman Mike Bishop. “Our servicemen and women have selflessly put their lives on the line to protect our freedom, and it’s our duty to fight for them here at home.”
The medals ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Rochester Hills City Hall, 1000 Rochester Hills Drive.

Henderson will be presented with the following awards:
Good Conduct Medal – awarded to any active-duty enlisted member of the United States military who completes three consecutive years of “honorable and faithful service.”
National Defense Service Medal – awarded to enlisted members of the United States military who serve during qualifying periods of national emergency or any other periods designated by the Secretary of Defense.
Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze service stars – awarded to recognize service during the Vietnam War.
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon – a decoration presented by South Vietnam to recognize members of allied forces who served in the Vietnam War.
Expert Badge with Rifle Bar – a civilian badge presented to personnel upon successful completion of a weapons qualification course and awarded to those who score at the highest levels when firing for record.
Sharpshooter Badge with Auto Rifle Bar – awarded to members of the U.S. military who have a high degree of weapon skills.
