Students Experience Career of Choice Through Independent Study
7th and 8th graders experience a wonderful opportunity through Oak Arbor School's Independent Study Program

Every year, Oak Arbor School’s 7th and 8th grade students have the opportunity to choose a subject that interests them, for their independent study. They are paired with an adult mentor from the community who specializes in that area of study. The students meet with their mentor for an hour each week, and work on a project together. At the completion of this 9 week unit, students present their projects to parents and friends.
Subjects this last semester included; writing, interior design, computer animation, woodworking, and business models.
“Independent studies are always a highlight for my students. They really enjoy digging into a topic that they find intriguing.” Gay Elphick, Oak Arbor School’s 7th & 8th grade teacher.
