Painted Lady Closes After 2 Years in Lake Orion

Owner Debby Enright said closing her store was 'bitter sweet'.

Last summer's construction in downtown Lake Orion was the beginning of the end for the Painted Lady.

Debby Enright, owner of the boutique, officially closed the doors to Painted Lady on Friday after two years of being in downtown Lake Orion. She noted her storefront was commonly filled with furniture she painted, home goods and upcycled knick knacks. Enright said the first year of business was great for the store, located at 15 E. Flint St., but business quickly fizzled out after construction started and things never picked back up again, she said.

In addition to manning the shop, Enright works at Charter One Bank in Orion. Enright noted that the closing is 'bitter sweet' because though she liked having her own store, it will be nice to have some extra time on her hands.

"I'll miss it, but I'm really looking forward to having time to myself," she said. "When you're working seven days a week it's hard to find time to run around and find things and create, and that's what I love to do."

Nancy King, events coordinator for , said that Painted Lady was always stocked with neat items.

"It's really sad to see Deb go," King said. "She's really going to be missed."

Likewise Paul Zelenak, Lake Orion Village manager, said he hates to see her leave.

"She always had interesting things at very reasonable prices," Zelenak said.

After Enright takes some time for herself, she said she will continue to post some of her pieces on her Painted Lady Facebook page. She also said that she will most likely be putting a couple of items back in the store when businesswoman Deena Maurus takes over the space, creating a shop called Vignettes. Enright said she used to have things created by Maurus displayed in her store and believes Vignettes will be similar in appeal to Painted Lady.

"I have no regrets, I did what I wanted to do," she said. "I enjoyed it, it was fun and I had some really great friends come out of here."
