Two-Vehicle Crash Claims Life of Lake Orion High School Student

Alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor in two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of Olivia Spolyar, Oakland County Sheriff's Department says.

A Lake Orion High School student died Monday, Nov. 11, in a two-vehicle accident on Seymour Lake Road, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department said.

Olivia Spolyar, 17, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old Village or Ortonville man whose name has not been released by the sheriff’s department. The driver was injured, but has been released from an area hospital.

The accident occurred about 8 p.m. on Seymour Lake Road just west of Sashabaw Road, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

The 2006 Chevrolet Impala in which Spolyar was a passenger reportedly crossed the center line and struck an oncoming 2000 Ford Focus vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Oxford Township man, whose name was also withheld. The driver and two passengers – both men, ages 18 and 19 – were all injured and remain hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

The sheriff’s department said alcohol does not appear to be a factor at this time, and the crash remains under investigation. The sheriff’s department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting deputies from the Brandon Township Substation in the investigation.
