Week in Review: Nature Center Approved, New School Board President

Here's what's been happening in Oakland Township in the past week.

A lot happened in and around Oakland Township this week and we want to make sure you heard about it all, so Patch is giving you a week in review. We picked out some of the highlights from the past week to catch you up to speed.

  • : At Tuesday's Planning Commission meeting at , commissioners gave a green light to the addition of a nature center, dock, walkways and more at Lost Lake Nature Park. According to Mindy Milos-Dale, parks and trails planner for Oakland Township, the construction of the project will begin in spring or summer.
  • : Moceri Development came before the Planning Commission on Tuesday night, presenting a minor change to their proposed continuing care senior living community. No decision was made Tuesday but between now and the next meeting Planning Commission Chairman James Carter hopes the commissioners can review the information and be prepared to make a motion – either to approve or deny the project.
  • : On Wednesday night the Rochester Community Schools Board of Education held a special meeting so that new members could be sworn in and to elect officials for 2012. Jennifer Berwick was elected president and Beth Talbert is the new vice president.
  • Police Blotter: Patch caught up on incidents reported to the from over the holidays. A road rage incident on Dec. 22 resulted in a he cut off near the corner of Adams and Silverbell Roads, according to a report. On Wednesday the near the Boys & Girls Club in Lake Orion. An Oakland County Sheriff's Office report confirmed that the man died of cardiac arrest after an autopsy was performed on Friday.
  • Sports: 47-38 on Thursday night. Also, it was a great week to be Spartan or Wolverine, as both football teams were victorious in their bowl games. 33-30 in the Outback Bowl on Monday.The University of Michigan Wolverines capped their college football season with a 23-20 victory over Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Tuesday night.
