People love snow days!

Winter Weather Woes!

A declaration of a “snow day” in the area was met with a cacophony of cheers and applause by children and some workers but not so much by parents who now had to arrange for offspring care. A glance at some social media accounts including Facebook revealed that by and large people were delighted that there was no school or that some services had been cancelled. Interestingly enough, these same people who claimed they were unable to transport themselves to work or school or various appointments, will now be found at the mall, skiing or snowboarding on the snow laden slopes of southeast Michigan, or will be dining with friends at local restaurants. The question is – if roads were so impassable for work or school was it a miracle that people can somehow find their way to the malls or other entertainment?

Back in the Dark Ages when we were in school, there were no snow days or bus transportation. Somehow we found our way to school or later on to work. Unfortunately we now have a society of wimps who at the earliest display of snowflakes await a call for a snow day! Fortunately there are some people who maintain the toughness that has distinguished our nation in the past and have traveled to their jobs. I’m referring to First Responders who are at work today – nurses and doctors who are there for our comfort – and mall employees who realize that they have to be present to wait on the wimps and wusses who couldn’t make it to work or school but are now at the mall!
