The Humane Society of Huron Valley(HSHV) Animal Cruelty and Rescue Team brought in 88 cats from horrendous conditions in a home in Ypsilanti Township last week. The cats came in sick, malnourished and flea-infested and are still under medical treatment.
HSHV held a special adoption weekend to help find homes for the numerous adult cats that were already in the shelter. “We needed to make room for the 88 that really needed care,” said Katie Johnson, HSHV Adoptions Coordinator. “We held a FREE adoptions weekend for any cat over 5 months old and the turnout was nothing short of amazing.”

HSHV set a record with 144 adoptions in 3 days with 90 of those adoptions being adult cats. The generous support of the community was evident not only in the adoption numbers but also in the amount of food and supplies that came through the shelter doors. “We want to thank our volunteers and the public for the donations,” continued Johnson. “We are now able to care for the 88 cats that will be needing ongoing care for some time.”

Some of the 88 cats are well enough to be available for adoption now. You can see all of our adoptable animals on our website.
If you have a barn or out-building and would like an outside cat, HSHV has a “Barn Buddies” Program for cats that end up at HSHV but are not really suitable for an in-home adoption. Barn Cats are FREE and can be adopted out through the Barn Buddies Program by filling out a simple application.
