Anti-Human Trafficking S.O.A.P. Bars Distributed on United Way Day of Action

Bars of soap will be labeled with the National Human Trafficking Hotline number and distributed to area motels where prostitution occurs.

Plymouth, MI — Volunteers will label bars of soap with emergency human trafficking hotline numbers and then distribute them to area motels and other hotspots for prostitution during this year’s Plymouth Community United Way Day of Action.

The Plymouth Community United Way event, in partnership with The Salvation Army Plymouth, takes place at from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 46250 Ann Arbor Road, in Plymouth.

Rhonda Hines of S.O.A.P. (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution) will give a short presentation, and then participants will label bars of soap with the National Human Trafficking Hotline number —1 (888) 3737-888 — and then distribute them.

Because of the mature nature of the subject matter, parental guidance is advised.

According to its website, S.O.A.P. was founded by Theresa Flores, who was auctioned off to nearly two dozen men in a dirty, dingy motel in inner city Detroit. On that night, there was no bar of soap with emergency contact information.

S.O.A.P. conducts outreach events across the United States, especially during large events U.S. to hold outreaches during high-demand events like the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, Indy 500 and many more.
