AT&T Expands Its "It Can Wait" Program Beyond Texting
The telecom is spreading the word that other driving distractions are just as dangerous.
AT&T is announcing it is expanding its Don’t Text and Drive “It Can Wait” message to focus on more than texting behind the wheel.
The new campaign aims to drive attention to other distracted driving concerns such as checking email, taking selfies and posting to social media. Those are the dangerous behaviors respondents to a new survey, recently released, admitted they were doing.
Nearly 4-in-10 smartphone users said they tap into social media while driving. Almost 3-in-10 surf the net. And surprisingly, 1-in-10 video chat.

To drive awareness Twitter is collaborating with AT&T to share messages on their platform about the dangers of smartphone use behind the wheel. And Google will team up with AT&T this summer for nationwide reality tour. Google Cardboard will make it possible for people to use their own smartphones to see the 3D virtual reality program, highlighting the dangers of distracted driving.
“When we launched It Can Wait five years ago, we pleaded with people to realize that no text is worth a life,” said Lori Lee, AT&T’s global marketing officer. “The same applies to other smartphone activities that people are doing while driving. For the sake of you and those around you, please keep your eyes on the road, not on your phone.”
