Workman Elementary Moon Watch

Perfect Night for a Moonwatch!

Workman Elementary second grade students and their families enjoyed an evening of moon watching and related activities on Thursday, October 25th

Second grade teachers Mrs. Donnelly, Mrs. Demars, Mrs. Robertson, Mrs. Krug, Mrs. Johnston, Mrs. Watson and Miss. Zazula (student teacher) hosted the event to enhance the unit study of the sun, moon and Earth.

Telescopes were graciously shared by a few families which allowed students to see the moon up close.  The students were excited to share with family and friends that they were looking at the waxing gibbous phase.  Teachers, students and families were awed by the view of the surface of the moon.  The craters were in clear view!

In addition to viewing the moon outside, indoors the students were able to enjoy activities such as a moon movie, research station in the computer lab (finding moon facts), completing a moon journal page, and creating the moon phases with Oreo cookies.

The families were also treated to a space presentation by Mr. David Haslam, a member of the MARS Society.  Mr. Haslam also was on a panel with Buzz Aldrin.  He is an expert on space and shared many interesting facts about our moon and the moons of other planets.  Both, students and parents enjoyed his presentation.
