Canton Man Dies From Suspected Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Police

Officials found the man dead inside his Canton automotive business with "extremely high" levels of carbon monoxide, police said.

CANTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A man was found dead from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning Tuesday morning inside his automotive business in Canton Township, police said.

Officials were called to the business on the 7200 block of N. Haggerty Road near Warren Road at 7 a.m. after an employee found the owner unresponsive, police said.

Officials tried to revive the 60-year-old man inside the business but were unsuccessful, police said.

After investigating the scene, officials were called back to the business after an employee reported he wasn't feeling well, police said.

That's when officials realized the building had an "extremely high" levels of carbon monoxide, police said.

The employee, three police officers and four firefighters were taken to a nearby hospital where they were evaluated for exposure to the gas, police said.

All were treated and released from the hospital.

Officials believe the carbon monoxide came from a vehicle inside the building.

Police said an investigation of the owner's death will remain open until the owner’s cause of death is determined by the medical examiner.
