Canton Newcomers & Neighbors Host Event on Community Growth
Canton Township Treasurer and local Plymouth business leader discuss what's new and exciting in our area!
The Canton Newcomers & Neighbors are hosting a “New Investments in Canton” event, welcoming members Melissa McLaughlin, Canton Township Treasurer, and Rose Lang, Managing Partner, Keller Williams Realty of Plymouth, who will discuss new business expansion, new housing developments, and existing home sales in the Canton community.
The event takes place on Wednesday, November 4, at 7 pm in the Board Room of the Canton Township Administration Building located at 1150 S. Canton Center Road. This event, sponsored by Community Financial Credit Union, is free and open to all Canton-area women (reservations required).
Canton has seen a surge in residential housing growth and welcomed more new businesses in recent years. More women in the local and surrounding areas are reaching out to the Canton Newcomers & Neighbors for help in connecting to the community, making the organization more important than ever. With 140 members, the organization is the largest volunteer women’s social group in the greater Canton area, and includes women living in any Canton-area township, city or village for any length of time of residency.

“We will play a more vital role than ever in the lives of women and their families as we fulfill our purpose of bringing together neighbors in the community to meet, make new friends and take an active social, charitable, and civic interest in our community,” said Linda Obrec, President of the organization. “Not only did we break the recent history record for membership, we hit all-time highs in donations we made to local charities, advertising revenue and sponsorship revenue last year,” she concluded.
The group meets most months of the year for a full membership event and offers over 20 special interest groups, including book club; movies; trivia; cards, bunco and dominoes; and walking, dining and culinary-interest groups. Members choose to participate in as few or as many events as their interest and time allow, and membership costs only $25 a year. Prospective members can attend their first two events for free.
