Canton Woman Sentenced for Shooting Ex-Boyfriend in the Groin

A Canton Township woman who shot her ex-boyfriend in the groin and stomach at a Rochester Hills residence last October was sentenced to up to five years in prison Tuesday.

Sheryl Anne Lamothe, 58, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of  assault with intent to do great bodily harm in connection with the incident, The Oakland Press reports. Initially, she had been charged with assault with intent to commit murder and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The firearms charge was dismissed in exchange for her plea.

In Tuesday’s sentencing, Oakland County Judge Colleen O’Brien ordered Lamothe to prison for not less than one or more than five years. She will receive credit for 44 days already spent in jail.

Lamothe must pay restitution of $2,529, as well as court costs and fees, and is prohibited from contacting the victim.
