Police said a man armed with a knife walked into the police department's lobby and stabbed an officer during a struggle.
LIVONIA, MI — A Livonia police officer was stabbed and injured at the department's headquarters building on Friday, according to police.
A man walked into the department's lobby on Farmington Road shortly after 9 a.m. Friday while brandishing a knife, police said.
He made threats consistent with a mental health crisis and became aggressive toward officers inside the lobby, police said.

Officers, along with the department's crisis clinician, tried to de-escalate the situation before firing a Taser several times, police said.
The man fell to the ground and officers struggled to arrest him, police said.

The man stabbed an officer in the leg during the struggle, but officers did eventually arrest him, police said.
An officer, who had drawn his gun, was also kicked by the man, causing one round to fire unintentionally, police said.
No one was struck by the round, police said.
The officer who was stabbed in the leg was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The man was also taken to a nearby hospital for a psychological evaluation and treatment of minor injuries, police said.
There were no other injuries in the incident, police said.
