Chorale arranged donation for Alzheimer's Association

Southfield, MI – On Monday, July 15th, 2013 the Alzheimer's Association – Greater Michigan Chapter welcomed The BeckRidge Chorale’s Serving Others Through Music Everywhere (SOME) team into the association’s adult day programs.

The SOME Team coordinated a donation drive for the adult day program locations between March and May. Nearly 200 members were encouraged to donate through friendly competition between musical sections. They brought in approximately 700 items valued at about $1800 to be split up between the two adult day programs. Items included puzzles, nail polish, CD’s, art supplies and many others. “We are so appreciative of the time, effort and generosity of the SOME Team. Their commitment is really inspiring and will help make the day a little brighter for the older adults that come to our programs,” said Caite Morgowicz who oversees the day programs as the Respite Services Manager at the association.

The Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Michigan Chapter has 2 local metro-Detroit adult day programs; the Robert and RoseAnn Comstock Day Program and the Rebecca and Gary Sakwa Day Program. The Robert and RoseAnn Comstock Day Program is located in Detroit at 66 Lothrop Road, while the Rebecca and Gary Sakwa Day Program is housed within our Metro-Detroit office in Southfield near the corner of Telegraph and Ten Mile road. The hours of operation for the day programs are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am until 5:00 pm.

The BeckRidge Chorale was founded in 1973 as the Plymouth Community Chorus. The group changed their name in 2006 to reflect their regional outreach. The organization believes in giving back to the community, which led to the creation of the Serving Others Through Music Everywhere (SOME) team.  The Chorale is part of BeckRidge Productions which is comprised of three adult chorale groups that perform throughout the year: BeckRidge Chorale, Cherry Hill Singers, and Village Voices. Annually they host a vocal music competition for middle and high school students called "Canton Idol", and recently have expanded to include a youth chorale and a musical theater group for teenagers and young adults.
