Dead Body Found on Plymouth School Playground
Students were shielded from the scene as the arrived at the school.

A dead body was found on the playground of a Plymouth-Canton Community Schools playground Monday about 90 minutes before students were due to arrive at elementary school.

A staff member at Smith Elementary School, 1298 McKinley St., Plymouth, spotted the man’s body in about 8:30 a.m. and called police, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Nick Brandon, a spokesman for the schools, said care was taken to shield students arriving at the school from viewing the cordoned off scene. The morning lineup of the 389 students enrolled at Smith Elementary occurred inside the school, rather than outside, as is customary.

The area was cleared around 10 a.m. and students were allowed to go outside for recess.
“Our hearts and thoughts go out to the gentleman who passed away and his family,” Brandon said.
