Canton Commission on Culture, Arts and Heritage

Canton Acts of Culture Week Scheduled For May 1-7, 2011

Some of the many goals of Canton's Acts of Culture Week include: showcasing community cultural resources and partnerships; celebrating diverse culture offerings; raising awareness of arts accessibility; instilling an appreciation of local arts organizations; and promoting the arts and heritage in and around the Canton community.

"By coordinating this week-long spotlight on the arts in Canton, we hope to showcase the many cultural activities and opportunities within our diverse community," said ReGina Coles-Shamberger, Commission on Culture, Arts and Heritage Chairperson. "We also hope it will raise awareness of Canton's Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage and our mission."

Community members are encouraged to "sample" the variety of cultural offerings available from May 1-7, 2011. This week-long celebration will culminate with a special performance by the Michigan Philharmonic entitled, "Celebrating Bollywood," on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at Canton’s Village Theater, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road in Canton, MI 48187. A special reception prior to the Bollywood concert from 6:30-7:30 p.m. will be hosted by The Partnership for the Arts & Humanities, featuring delicious cuisine from Station 885 and La Bistecca Italian Grille.

Theater-goers are encouraged to bid on silent auction items during the reception with all proceeds benefiting The Partnership for the Arts & Humanities, a 501(c)(3) organization which is committed to encouraging the development of cultural arts in the Greater Canton Community by providing artists with financial support, advocacy and education. Tickets to "Celebrating Bollywood" are $25 and can be purchased at www.michiganphil.org or by calling 734/451-2112.
