Photographs of celebrities and major political figures are the focus of a new exhibit at the Plymouth Community Arts Council. The work of Doug Elbinger spans a forty-five year career that was jump started with a 1966 photo of Lennon and McCartney at Olympia Stadium in Detroit. He caught the eye of famed Detroit Free Press photographer, Tony Spina, and was on his way.
Highlights of Elbinger’s photojournalistic career include Robert F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign in May 1968 and the invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968. Over the years, his photographs have appeared in countless newspapers, magazines, trade journals, album covers and annual reports. He has also operated an award winning portrait and commercial photography studio in the Lansing area since 1978.
Elbinger recently released a second edition of his book, “Encounters With Remarkable Men: A Retrospective Presentation.” The 130 photos range from The Beatles, Bob Hope, Bill Cosby, Elton John, and Mick Jagger to Robert F. Kennedy, Colin Powell, Bill Clinton and the Dali Lama.
