St. John’s Episcopal Church will hold its annual Service of Lessons and Carols for Advent, Sunday, Dec. 11 at 4:30 p.m.
The service follows a format first popularized by King’s College of the University of Cambridge, England. Readings from Scripture are alternated with the singing of songs and carols tied to the Advent season.
Members of the church’s music ministry, including the Youth Choir, Handbell Choir, Parish Choir and contemporary group SonShine, will team up to perform music for the service, under the direction of Minister of Music Julie Ford.
A reception will follow the concert, which will feature the artwork of local artist C. Robin Janning.
The concert is free to attend, but those who go are invited to give a free-will offering. Proceeds will be donated to the Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.
