Garden City VFW to Host Community Open House
VFW Post 7575 invites the community to join them for an open house on Saturday, Nov 7, at 7:00 P.M.
Garden City, MI - As Americans everywhere are getting ready to honor and celebrate our nations veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7575 is gearing up to host an open house on Saturday, November 7th at the Pfc. Don Merrifield VFW Hall located at 33011 Ford Road, in Garden City.
The post also recently announced that Ms. Verdell Blackmon, an Operation: Desert Storm Navy veteran was recently elected to serve as the post’s quartermaster. ”Service to country has always been in my blood, this is just another way to continue serving by representing my fellow veterans.” Blackmon said. Blackmon is the Garden City post’s first female African-American quartermaster.
With the open house being held on Saturday, the post is looking to add new blood to its organization by reaching out to vets who recently served in campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan and other locations internationally. “Many veterans believe that VFW’s are social clubs for our parents and grandparents. We are trying to change that mindset and reach out to our younger heroes who have served in more recent conflicts, while continuing to be open to and honoring all veterans who walk through our doors.” Explained Michael Greene, VFW Post 7575 Commander.
