Giving Hope Makes $20,000 in Donations, Honors Philanthropy at Anniversary Event

Group supports Salvation Army, Literacy Council and other area organizations.

(Originally posted on Dec. 7, 2016) CANTON TOWNSHIP, MI — The Giving Hope Women's Giving Circle handed out another round of grants totaling more than $20,000 to more than a dozen community organizations in the Plymouth and Canton areas, Hometownlife.com is reporting.

Cynthia Vercruysse, chair of the Giving Hope advisory board, said the grants help the organizations meet additional community needs. More than $10,000 of the money for the grants was raised at an anniversary event attended by 160 Giving Hope members. The organization's primary mission is to improve the lvies of women and girls in the Plymouth and Canton areas.

The recipients are:

  • Salvation Army: $1,500 for personal care products for women and children in its programs.
  • Literacy Council: $3,500 to help fund a part-time program coordinator for the volunteer English literacy tutors program.
  • Miracle League: $3,500 to help pay for a pavilion and bleachers used by children and volunteers at events.
  • Starfish Family Services: $3,000 for playground equipment for children at Plymouth-Canton Head Start.
  • First Step: $7,000 to support Head of the House project enabling community women to refurbish the shelter’s community room.
  • Local nonprofit organizations: $2,500; this incentive grant will allow community organizations to participate in the Giving Hope Spring Educational meeting to educate community members on their services and needs.
