Kindergarten readiness - Fact or fiction?

Kindergarten readiness - Fact or fiction? A good teacher plus an involved parent can produce miracles!

Kindergarten readiness - Fact or fiction?

Someone approached me few day back and we discussed this subject.

Is this a hype created by early childhood educators?

Does it have a true value that will really benefit the child in the long run?

How does a parent really know that their child is ready for Kindergarten?

Interesting questions.

One of the key question is - what is the difference between a more confident and less confident child?

Early childhood education practiced in superior Pre-Schools is very well thought out and planned with systemic lesson-planning to build the learning of the young child and help improve the confidence of the child.

Early childhood education for a child can be extremely beneficial and can help build the confidence of the young child that will last a life time!

However, there is one critical factor in this. It is the extent of parent involvement and reinforcement. If we want better results, we need to be more involved as parents.

It is well documented that the young human brain can learn as much as 7 different languages early on. This is an indictor that the young child, when taught carefully starting at the age of 3 or 4 year old is able to learn significantly and it helps them when they enter Kindergarten.

High quality pre-schools conduct 'Kindergarten readiness evaluations' that are extremely beneficial for both the child and parent. One key element of these evaluations is that the Parent and Teacher should discuss the outcome and develop a plan as required for the child based upon these evaluations.

Learning starts very early and the first 5 years of the child are equally as important as the next 5 years! A confident Kindergartner can be developed into a high achiever with some planning and foresight. This will pay off significantly in the long run for the child, parent and more importantly to our society.

Let me know your opinion & thoughts on this interesting subject.
I will appreciate it.

Thank you.
