LIVONIA, MI — A Livonia man is facing charges after billing the Medicaid program for phony counseling services in Detroit, according to the Michigan Attorney's General Office.

Glynn Merriewether, 59, was charged with five counts of Medicaid fraud-false claim. Each count is a four-year felony and punishable by a fine of $50,000. He was released on $50,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 23.

Officials said Merriewether owned and operated a counseling business in Detroit called Perfectus Consulting Inc. since 2019.

Investigators determined Merriewether billed the Medicaid program for those services that never took place.

"My office will continue to hold accountable those who break the rules when billing the Medicaid program," Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said. "Those rules exist to protect Michigan residents and to protect the integrity of this critical program."
