Livonia Police Prepared For Possible 'Teen Takeover' At Livonia Spree

Livonia Police said they are aware of a possible "teen takeover" at the Spree during this weekend.

LIVONIA, MI — Livonia Police said they are aware of a possible "teen takeover" at the Spree during this weekend.

A social media graphic advertising a "Livonia Spree Takeover" on Saturday caught the department's attention. Text on the graphic reads "4:00 untill were kicked out the MF!!!!"

"Everyone is aware of the history of past 'Teen Takeovers' that have, many times, turned into mob-like disorderly, disruptive, or unlawful behavior," the Livonia Police Department said. "There will be zero tolerance, and everyone should expect enforcement action, including removal from the event, citation, or arrest, when appropriate. We look forward to a safe and successful Livonia Spree 76."

"Teen takeover" is a nationwide trend where large groups of teens use social media to gather at specific public spaces, such as downtown districts, malls or parks.

The large groups have at times overwhelmed police and have led to traffic disruptions, property damage and instances of violence.

Dearborn Heights Police said they stopped a "teen takeover" at the city's Spirit Festival. Police said officers arrived immediately and shut down the takeover, arresting several unruly youths.

A teen was shot and injured last month in an area of downtown Detroit where roughly 60 kids gathered, according to police.

Police in those cases called on parents to know where their children are.

The Livonia Spree started Tuesday and runs through Sunday. It includes a carnival with rides and games, drone show, fireworks show on the final night.

Spree officials have added security, capacity limits and new entrance fees on the final day to help control crowds. They said it is being done for safety reasons.
