Man Ordered on Sex Offender Registry for Life in Attempted Canton Rape
Ali Mohamad-Sahrif Al-Aboosi, who was accused of luring woman to Canton on the false premise of a cleaning job, avoided jail time with plea.

A Dearborn man accused of luring a woman to a vacant house in Canton on a false promise of a cleaning job and then attempting to rape her has avoided jail time, but must register as a sex offender registry for life, a judge said Monday.
Ali Mohamad-Sahrif Al-Aboosi, 45, was sentenced to three years probation and ordered on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry by Wayne County Circuit Judge Michael Callahan, The Canton Observer reported.
Al-Aboosi was originally charged one count of assault with intent to commit sexual penetration, a 10-year felony, and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct – force or coercion, a two-year misdemeanor, in connection with the incident in April.
He pleaded no contest to a single charge of assault with intent to commit sexual penetration.

The victim was able to fight off her attacker before she was raped, police said last spring. She called police from a home near the property at Lilley and Warren roads, and Al-Aboosi was arrested a few hours later.
Jill Popovich, who works with the First Step sexual assault and domestic violence advocacy group, said the plea agreement spared the victim from the trauma of a trial, and holds Al-Aboosi accountable.

“They are in the public eye for the rest of their life,” Popovich said, adding, “It’s one way to help protect not just the victim, but the community at large.”
