Marine Veteran Given 4 to 15 Years for Killing Neighbor After Fight Over Dog

An apologetic Iraq war veteran was sentenced to four to 15 years in prison Tuesday for shooting and killing his neighbor after they fought over a dog running wild, according to a Detroit Free Press report.
Charles Simkins, 29, of Walled Lake, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in July in the 2013 death of Edwin Criswell, 45, the report stated. Simkins, a former Marine, had been charged with open murder and could’ve faced life in jail if convicted, the report added.

Simkins told the court Monday he was sorry for shooting Criswell, the report stated. Simkins shot Criswell in the leg after the neighbors argued over Simkins’s dog being loose. Criswell bled out on his front porch.
