Missing 19-Year-Old UM Student Found Dead In Ann Arbor: Police

Investigators did not find obvious signs of trauma and don't suspect foul play at this time.

ANN ARBOR, MI — A missing 19-year-old University of Michigan student was found dead in Ann Arbor over the weekend, according to police.

Officers found Lucas Mattson dead at 12:01 p.m. Saturday in the 1900 Block of Cambridge Road, according to police.

Investigators did not find obvious signs of trauma and don't suspect foul play at this time. The Washtenaw County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, according to police.

Mattson was last seen walking by himself without a coat in the 1700 block of Hill Street amid frigid temperatures at 1 a.m. Friday, according to police.

He was reported missing at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Officials conducted a 20-hour search for Mattson amid extreme cold conditions.

Mattson was a sophomore studying engineering at the University of Michigan, according to the Michigan Daily.

"It is with deep sadness that we share Lucas Mattson has been found deceased. Our hearts are with Lucas’s family, friends, and all those who knew and loved him during this incredibly difficult time," the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security posted on X. "We recognize this news may be upsetting for many in our community. If you are struggling or feeling overwhelmed, you are not alone."
