PLYMOUTH, MI — A new Harness racing track may be coming to Plymouth Township as representatives from Northville Downs seek to relocate its operations.

The new track dubbed "Northville Downs at Plymouth Township," would be built on part of a 128-acre parcel near Five Mile and Ridge roads. The new facility would include a grandstand, main building, large patio and a horse barn, in addition to the racetrack.

"As of now, based on what I know, I do support the project and I'll be advocating for it," Plymouth Township Supervisor Kurt Heise told WWJ News. "It's very intriguing. I think it would provide a great financial benefit to our taxpayers, and it would be a very exciting entertainment venue for all of us in Wayne County."

The proposed $25 million project could come before the Plymouth Township Planning Commission as soon as February. If approved, it would still need approval from the Plymouth Township Planning Commission and Board of Trustees.

Northville Downs has been looking for a new location since its property at Seven Mile and Sheldon roads was sold five years ago. New developers are planning to build homes, stores and parks on the property.
