Police said officers got a call in September from someone claiming that he had just killed everyone inside a home in the area of Cherry Hill and Lotz roads in Canton Township.

Once officers arrived at the home, they quickly determined the call was likely a "swatting call," which is a prank to get as many officers to rush to the scene as possible, according to police.

Investigators later identified as O’Leary as the prank caller and arrested him on Oct. 3 in connection with the false report, according to police.

"I commend the outstanding response of our police officers and investigators who worked on this case," Canton Township Police Chief Chad Baugh said. "We are committed to utilizing all available resources to identify those responsible for disrupting public safety services through ‘swatting' incidents. We appreciate the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office's continued efforts to issue the necessary charging documents and hold individuals accountable for these crimes."
