P-CCS Board OKs Liberty for New School Name: What Do You Think?

You can't keep calling the Canton Twp. middle school 'Hey You School.' Is Liberty a good choice?

The Plymouth-Canton Community Schools board approved a name, Liberty, for the new middle school being built in Canton Township, according to a HometownLife report.

The school district chose the name because of its policy to name middle schools after philosophies or directions, and board President John Barrett said in a press release that Liberty ably characterizes the school, the report stated.

“I think Liberty captures an open and dynamic new school. Like Discovery and Pioneer, the name focuses on the spirit that this community and the country are all about.”

The $29.2-million, 134,500-square-foot middle school at Cherry Hill and Canton Center roads will replace Plymouth’s Central Middle School, the report added.
