P-CEP English Language Arts Class Adjusts To Learning From Home

Plymouth High School English Language Arts teacher Dale Palmer wasn't too worried about teaching from home.

When the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools recently moved to an online format of educating students because of the quarantine, Plymouth High School English Language Arts teacher Dale Palmer wasn’t too worried. Of course, he would rather teach his English 9, Science Fiction and Reading/Writing Workshop 9 students in a classroom at PHS, but Palmer is pretty good with technology and the transition was pretty easy for him because he is an expert Googler.

He delivers instruction currently by creating short videos called "flipped lessons," which are basically video lectures. Sometimes he even creates his own clipart to help students better understand concepts. He deploys his lessons and assignments on Google Classroom; Students then create Google Documents for writing projects, and use Google Forms for objective assessment,

Using technology, Palmer also is able to keep things interesting. When teaching literature he will sometimes dress in character to make a point and keep students’ attention.
