Photos: Plymouth Football Beats Northville in KLAA Championship

The Plymouth Wildcats come out on top against the Northville Mustangs in Kensington Lakes Activity Association conference championship.

's football team conquered Northville in the Kensington Lakes Activity Association championship Friday on Plymouth's home turf.

Both teams came into the game with a 7-0 record. 

Northville struck first with a touchdown in the first quarter, but Plymouth tied it up on a Donte Fox touchdown and took the lead on a field goal.

Plymouth went into halftime with a 10-7 lead and emerged with a flurry of points to take a 24-7 lead. The Mustangs cut into the deficit, however, in the fourth quarter. Behind quarterback Jeff Gertley, Northville staged a comeback to pull within four points with under two minutes remaining.

The Mustangs were poised to get the ball back on a Plymouth punt, but a botched return gave Plymouth possession. Northville took its final timeout, which paved the way for the Wildcats to run out the clock and take the win.

"I'm really proud of the kids and their accomplishment being 8-0, but I wasn't very happy about the way we played tonight," said Plymouth's head coach Mike Sawchuk. "If we continue to not get better, it's gonna be a short year for us."

Though he wasn't thrilled about their performance, Sawchuk did congratulate the team after the game for making Plymouth High School history by winning the school's first conference championship.
