Season is Ripe for a Trip to Plymouth Orchards

Orchard welcomes autumn with fresh apple cider, award-winning doughnuts and a chance for guests to pick their own apples.

opens its doors once again for this season to celebrate the arrival of autumn by offering its award-winning doughnuts, cider and hand-picked apples.

According to Plymouth Orchards Manager, Mary Krouse, the orchard attracts thousands of visitors each year during the two and a half month-long season.

Situated off the beaten path on Warren Road, the orchard celebrates its simplicity as it is reminiscent of farmland in more rural areas.

According to Penny Gehan, a preschool teacher for St. Valentine’s School in Redford who was visiting the orchard with her class, the environment at the orchard is inviting for people of all backgrounds.

“The environment is nice enough to bring your children to,” said Gehan. “I think it’s nice that they give a little educational lesson to kids before going out on the wagon; it is very clean here and it serves as a nice field trip.”

Gehan said it helps bring the community together as the public can come and enjoy the doughnuts and cider offered at the mill.

In time for the Halloween holiday, Plymouth Orchard offers guests the opportunity to pick pumpkins along with its vast selection of apples.

Beth Anderson, originally from North Carolina, attended the school trip and had the opportunity to pick pumpkins with her daughter. On a day she described as beautiful and exciting for the kids, she said pumpkin-picking added the extra validity to the fall season.

“The pumpkin-picking gets the children interested in the holiday, even for fall in general, even if they are not celebrating Halloween,” she said.
