On Monday, Alex Nedeljkovic, Josh Wesley. Gianluca Curcuruto, Mathew Campagna, Francesco Vilardi and Victor Crus Rydberg spent a couple of hours of sweat equity packing food items in boxes at the Gleaners Food Bank in Howell.
While they didn’t run a power play, break out or face-off drill at Gleaners, the Whalers did contribute time and energy to help feed the hungry.
The Whalers have a history of contributing time and energy at Gleaners. Two seasons ago, Rickard Rakell (now with the National Hockey League’s Anaheim Ducks), Alex Aleardi, Austin Levi, Colin MacDonald, Nick Malysa, Simon Karlsson and Curtis Crombeen spent a two-hour shift doing the same thing at the Gleaners location in Howell as this season’s Whalers.
In return, Gleaners has supported the Whalers. Plymouth’s successful 2012 Alumni Game was known as the “Champions for a Hunger Free Summer”, with proceeds donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.
With cold weather front-and-center in the area and the holidays fast approaching, the Whalers hope fans coming to Saturday’s game will contribute a little to help the hungry this holiday season.
