Detroit police are investigating whether popular graffiti artist Shepard Fairey illegally tagged city buildings while he was in town finishing other commissioned works, according to a Detroit News report.
Fairey, 45, recently completed the 184-foot-tall Compuware building mural, as well as painting an East Grand River billboard, the report stated. The artist also tagged a water tower with his “Obey” brand and painted a handful of temporary murals around the city, the report added.

Police, however, are wondering if Fairey was responsible for unauthorized artwork that resembles the artist’s style, the report stated.
Fairey was unavailable for comment Monday.
