Public Has Two More Chances to Comment on Plymouth-Canton Redistricting

The futures of three attendance center are in question as district contemplates first massive redistricting since 1994.

The Plymouth-Canton school district will give patrons two more chances to weigh in on proposed boundary changes that could close two elementary schools before the board votes on the contentious issue at its Nov. 11 meeting.

Dozens of patrons – one of them dressed as a dragon, the Allen Elementary School’s mascot – implored board members not to close the school at a full-house meeting on Tuesday, The Observer & Eccentric reports.

The future of the Gallimore Elementary School and Tanger Center is also in question as the board considers the most massive redistricting plan since 1994.

Specific recommendations weren’t posted on the district’s website until Friday, causing some parents to argue they didn’t have enough time to study and respond to the plan.

“I applaud the administration on the work it is doing. ... My concern and frustration is with the process,” said Patrick Kehoe, who has two children in the district. “It’s crucial the administration do a better job communicating and validating its information.”

The next opportunities for public comment are 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, and 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30. Both meetings will be held at Discovery Middle School.
