The Canton Newcomers & Neighbors are hosting their 4th Annual Quarter Auction on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at the Plymouth Elks Club, located at 41700 Ann Arbor Road in Plymouth. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the auction starts at 7 p.m.
The auction is sponsored by Bovitz CPA, P.C., and includes 50 items donated by area businesses that will go up for bid using numbered bidding paddles and quarters. Sample prizes include whole house carpet cleaning, one hour massage, day at the spa for your car, overnight swim party, art classes, basket of everything honey, restaurant gift cards, Sam’s club shopping, and a bathroom towel warmer, for example.
One quarter is worth $25 during bidding. Bidding ranges from $25 to “priceless,” so it takes 1 to 6 quarters to bid on each item, per paddle. Each table has a cup into which a bidder places the amount of quarters it would take to bid on a chosen item, and before the corresponding paddle numbers are drawn from the tumbler, the cup is collected. If your paddle has the same number as the one drawn, you win! Bring your own rolls of quarters or buy them at the door. You choose which items you want to bid on and how many paddles you put into play (for example, 1 paddle = 1 number = 1 to 6 quarters; 2 paddles = 2 numbers = 2 to 12 quarters, etc.).

The event costs $5 per adult and includes the first bidding paddle, with up to two additional paddles available per person for $2 each. This is a fun, lively, and quick-paced event, with lots of cheering and enthusiasm, and it’s open to adults in and around the Canton area.
This is also a good opportunity to check out the Canton Newcomers & Neighbors, the largest social nonprofit club where women connect and get involved in their communities. The group meets most months of the year for a full membership event and offers over 20 special interest groups, including book club; movies; trivia; cards, bunco and dominoes; and walking, dining and culinary-interest groups. Members choose to participate in as few or as many events as their interest and time allow, and membership costs only $25 a year.
