The Recovery Project Co-CEO and Lead Physical Therapist Chosen as MDA Make a Muscle, Make a Difference 2014 Award Recipient

The Recovery Project, a high-intensity physical therapy center with clinics in Clinton Township and Livonia, announced today that the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) of Michigan selected Co-CEO and Lead Physical Therapist Polly Swingle as the MDA Make a Muscle Make a Difference 2015 Award Recipient. The Recovery Project Co-CEO Charlie Parkhill made the announcement.

“We are immensely proud of Polly’s achievement, and the work she does day in and day out not only for our clients at The Recovery Project, but the greater community,” said Parkhill. “Her creativity, compassion and commitment change lives every day, and have made an immeasurable impact in the physical therapy field.”

The annual MDA Make a Muscle Make a Difference award is presented to a member of the community who has dedicated their time, talents and expertise to improving the quality of life for those with muscular dystrophy. Swingle was chosen as the 2015 honoree due to her integral role in the MDA community.

She has been a therapy partner to the MDA since 2007, regularly working side by side with physicians in the Michigan Institute of Neurological Disorders (MINE) to evaluate and treat people with muscular dystrophy in the metro Detroit area. Additionally, she has provided the host facility for adult support groups, performed groundbreaking research with weighted vests for patients with ataxia and performed countless home and school visits.

As co-CEO and lead physical therapist at The Recovery Project, Swingle has more than 20 years of experience specializing in rehabilitative therapy for spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and neuromuscular disorders. She is a Project Walk Certified Trainer, a certified clinician in the practice of LSVT®BIG - therapy for individuals with Parkinson’s disease, a Geriatric Certified Specialist, a Certified Exercise Expert for Aging Adults (CEEAA), and is certified in neuro-developmental treatment, Burdenko therapy and Pilates. She earned her degree in physical therapy from Ohio University.
