There is a wonderful event coming up this weekend in Plymouth. The annual St. Baldrick's event to conquer childhood cancer is being held at the Plymouth Roc, on May 18, 2014. At this event, participants agree to get their heads shaved, and supporters agree to donate some money to this organization in order to laugh at said participants, and help stamp out childhood cancer, all at the same time.
This event will also have many fun things besides the shaving of the heads, and you do not have to have your head shaved to come out and have some fun. There will be raffles for items donated from places like Dean Sadler Salon, Salon Awesome, Busch's, A&E Jewelry, Residence Inn and I AM DETROIT clothing. Other fun things are, 50/50 drawing, photo booth, kid's games, and food and drink specials. This all runs from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.
It should be noted that 1 in 5 children diagnosed with cancer in the United States, will not survive, and of those that do survive, 2 out of 3 will suffer long-term effects from treatment. St. Baldrick's is determined to change those numbers. They are determined to conquer childhood cancer.

St. Baldrick's is a wonderful organization. Only 2.8% of general St. Baldrick's finances go towards management/general fund. So 97% of the money you contribute will go directly towards helping our children who are fighting cancer.
A gentleman named Eric Bacyinski is the event coordinator, and this is not his first go round handling this. This is Eric's 4th year organizing this event with Robb Drzewicki, and they are getting help from Tabitha Lyngvar as well.

The folks doing the actual shaving at this event are Todd & Scott Wells. They are the owners of Fantastic Sams here in Plymouth, and this is not the first time they have participated in this event. These two brothers donate their time, money, and equipment for this event, and are just really solid community citizens. So, if you want to help in the fight against childhood cancer, you can donate to any one of roughly 80 different participants. There are individuals and teams as well, and regardless of which team you donate to, it is the children who will benefit from your generosity.
You can find all the the participants here----> http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/1164/2014
So far, $35,618 has already been raised for this event, and Mr. Bacyinski is hoping to see it hit $40,000. There are 4 days left to hit this milestone, and it would be great to see the folks in the Plymouth-Canton community make this happen.
It is important to remember that you are not limited to making a donation at the various donation pages. You can also come out, and make a donation at the event. Remember, there will be raffles, food & drink specials, and if I am not mistaken, you can even bid to be the person who shaves the head of your favorite participant. Trust me, there will be many opportunities for fun!
So if you you would like to support this wonderful organization, please visit the participation page of one of our shavees, and donate $5, $10, $20, or whatever you are comfortable with. Once you've done that, come on out to the Plymouth Roc, and see the hair hit the floor!
