Super Saturday Scores Big
The first-time event combined dates for Canton Leisure Services' three annual summer fairs.
Canton Township Leisure Services' first annual Super Saturday featured an opportunity to meet team mascots for the Detroit Tigers and Plymouth Whalers as well as other larger-than-life character. The Satuday morning event drew nearly 200 of Canton residents.
The event, held from 10 a.m. to noon, combined three annual summer-service fairs: Summit on the Park's open house and those for township's summer jobs and camps.
"This has become our biggest event, said Ann-Marie Carravallah, Leisure Services' recreation coordinator. "It's our first time putting all three together. It's a great day."

Children had plenty of opportunity for fun, playing at craft tables, on a gymnastics mat, in a crawling tunnel, jumping in an inflatable that looked like a castle, or competeing at beanbag games.
Todd Pickerel watched as his daughters Alexis, 4, and Mya, 2, spent the morning at the crafts table, making figures from modeling clay. He said that they were both really into crafts. He explained that being cooped up inside all winter has helped them hone their art skills. "They really love doing these arts and crafts," he said. "Since it's been cold, Alexis has really gotten very good at coloring."
