This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week and I am asking my friends and neighbors to take a minute to thank a teacher. Teachers have one of the most difficult and important jobs— preparing our children for their future— and they deserve our gratitude.
Teachers are being asked to serve our schools and students under less than ideal circumstances. Our state and our community have seen cuts to education funding, which results in larger class sizes and less resources. The average teacher spends $485 out of their own pocket on supplies for their classroom, and many do so without batting an eye because it is what their students need to succeed.
When I attended Isbester, Bird, and Smith Elementary schools, West Middle School, and Salem High School, I knew many educators who sacrificed their time, money (and sometimes sanity!) to ensure that my classmates and I succeeded. Thank you to Ms. Swartz, Ms. Nagy, Mr. Smith, Mr. Slivester, Mr. Boyd, and so many other teachers during my time at Plymouth-Canton Community Schools who influenced my life and helped me get where I am today.

Now it is your turn. Who is the teacher you would most like to thank?
