Thieves Steal Valuables from Vehicles: Where They're Lurking

With the arrival of warm weather, police predict an uptick in car larcenies.

CANTON, MI – Thieves found some easy pickings in what was Canton’s most often reported and mostly preventable crime last year — purses, electronics, spare change and other personal property left in automobiles.

Officer Patty Esselink, the Canton Police Department’s community relations coordinator, said police investigated 247 reports of larcenies from vehicles in 2015, The Canton Observer reported.

Esselink said thieves target residential neighborhoods and parking lots near fitness centers, shopping centers, restaurants and daycare centers. They look first for unlocked vehicles, but also smash car windows to gain access.
