Third Canton Pharmacist Loses License Since March

Pharmacists convicted of conspiracy to commit health-care fraud and distribute controlled substances.

A pharmacist already serving time on a federal court conviction of conspiracy to commit health-care fraud and distribute controlled substances is the third Canton pharmacist since March to lose his license.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, or LARA, stripped Dineshkumar Babulal Patel’s license, Hometownlife.com reports. He was convicted of the fraud charges in U.S. District Court in May. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison and faces deportation after his release, LARA said.

Anish Bansilal Bhavsar, whose license was suspended after he was sentenced to one year in prison for conspiring to commit health-care fraud and distribute controlled substances. He helped to distribute $57 million in painkillers and other drugs fraudulently billed to Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance carriers, according to court records. He was sentenced to a year in prison and ordered to make pay restitution in the amount of $190,000.

Kartik P. Shah’s license suspended he convicted last Octobr in U.S. District Court of one count of health-care fraud conspiracy and one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. He was sentenced to 24 months in prison, and faces deportation after his release. He was ordered to pay $3.1 million in restitution.
