Learning Centers Help Children Make the Move Back to School
Canton, Michigan (Grassroots Newswire) August 19, 2013 - As September approaches, parents are calling learning centers across the country to help their children make the move back to school. This is especially true of parents whose children are reluctant, or even frightened, about returning to the classroom in September. The specially-trained teachers and personal attention offered at a learning center can give a child a much-needed shot of self-esteem to start the new school year.

According to Dr. Wie Pan of the Canton Huntington Learning Center, it is natural for children to experience some anxiety when entering a new classroom environment. However, Dr. Pan says, "When anxiety turns to dread, it is important to find out why and help them move past it. At our learning centers we focus on three building blocks that help a child overcome fear-of-school: skills, confidence, and motivation. When a child has all three, success follows." He outlines the three main ways Huntington Learning Center of Canton can help a child succeed in school, come September and throughout the school year:
1. We build skills - Children become frustrated when they can not keep up with classmates or school assignments due to a lack of basic skills. If a child was having problems at the end of the last school year, the introduction of new material will be even more overwhelming. By working on a child’s areas at our learning centers, new knowledge can be mastered.

2. We build self-confidence - Without self-confidence, a child may not feel capable of success in school. To build a child’s confidence, we set reasonable expectations and attainable goals, praising the child’s achievements. When children find that they can complete small tasks, they feel better about moving on to bigger challenges.
3. We build motivation - When a child is unmotivated, he or she may be expressing boredom or frustration with the materials being studied. At Huntington Learning Center of Canton, we know that the key to motivating children to learn is to make learning interesting. In addition, we encourage parents to look for real world opportunities to show their children the value of schoolwork. Once a child has skills and confidence, motivation follows because now they can do the work.
Dr. Pan adds, "The diagnostic test taken by students at Huntington Learning Center of Canton is the first step toward academic success. After diagnosing a child’s exact strengths and weaknesses, a customized program of instruction can be prescribed. Our goal is to help children reach their full potential."
